On this week's episode of The Legal Difference, attorney Wes Gralapp talks about getting a rental car after your vehicle was damaged in an accident. He clarifies that you are entitled to a rental car after an accident. The at-fault party's insurance company owes a rental car to you if your car is damaged, and the rental should be"like-kind," or comparable to your own. If you don't need a rental car, you may be entitled to "loss of use." This compensation reimburses you for the days that you are without the use of your vehicle. Wes also discusses the steps of getting a rental car, and why rental insurance may not be the best choice for you. Wes tells us the length of time you are allowed to stay in a rental car, which is typically the length of time it takes for your vehicle to be repaired. Finally he shares that going through the insurance company to get a rental could be time-consuming, and an attorney may be able to get you in a rental car more quickly.
