STOP paying for Rental Car Insurance - you're probably already covered

For help with your insurance needs contact Janus Insurance Agency - I Buy Rental Car Insurance,

also called a Collision Damage Waiver?

The real question is: Do you like paying again for something you may already have?

Most of the insurance companies we work with extend similar coverage from your personal auto insurance policy to the vehicle you are renting. For instance, if you have $250,000/$500,000/$250,000 split limit liability, a $100 comprehensive deductible, and a $500 collision deductible on your personal auto policy, that same coverage would be extended to the rental vehicle. If you were involved in an accident with the rental car you would be covered for the damage caused to the vehicle as well as for liability up to your limits.

There is a downside, however. You would have to pay the appropriate deductible and could be on the hook to reimburse the rental car company for the loss of use of the rental car. Where there's a downside, there's gotta be an upside. Those charges can be avoided if the entire cost of the rental car is booked and paid for with a credit card that offers car rental loss and damage insurance as one of its benefits. Check the terms and agreements of your credit cards to find out if yours offers it.

Should you buy the insurance from the rental place? The answer could be yes or no.

I say “No”, as long as you have the appropriate coverage in place and you take full advantage of benefits offered through you credit card.

I say “Yes”, if you have substandard personal auto insurance, no benefits associated with your credit card, or are going on a Tommy Boy style road trip…….

All the Best!
